RE: roof vent framing

No cabinets in this area...its the dinette below and an upper bunk...I'm "pretty sure" that the cabinet you do see in the pic doesnt reach the separation trim...

RE: Sewer/fittings question

As long as you have the cone shaped adaptor with different threaded steps to it and a rubber doghnut you should be set for all cg's.
NCH
I've been curious about those "threaded steps"....if the hole in the ground isnt threaded...why bother with threads??? :h

RE: roof vent framing

Looking at pic #2 above...you see a trim piece just this side of the light. What are the chances that that is a joint of the ceiling? in other words...if need be...could i remove that trim piece (what holds it on?) and then just the ceiling around this vent without "interacting" with the rest of the ceiling? Looks like the ceiling is only 1/8" ply...and the edges around the vent look like they are rotting also...

RE: roof vent framing

Correct, pull that vent and throw it away!! Get a new vent and a tube of the self leveling caulk. If the wood is still solid but just discolored I would leave it and use longer screws, or you can get a small dowel rod and insert it into the old holes and break it off flush, this will allow the same screws to bite. If the wood is rotten take a hack saw blade and run it along the framing top and bottom, this will seperate any fastners or glue that may he holding it in. Once that is done I would take a 3/4" spade bit and drill several holes vertically in the center of the member, take a chisel to break through the small areas that remain. This will allow you to remove the frame piece. Cut new piece to fit tight and glue in with Gorilla glue or liquid nails. Re staple or brad nail the ceiling back in place and replace with new vent and seal.
NCH
Thanks for the hacksaw tip....i probably woulda tryed to pry ceiling off the members which probably woulda broke up the ceiling...
Is there a difference btwn the self leveling caulk and the mounting "tape"? Caulk easier...better...etc?
That corner is shot...touched with screwdriver and was no resistance at all. I'm wondering...what are the chances that that light is attached to that member???

RE: roof vent framing

finding the leak source was fairly easy...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v148/mrjam2jab/Travel%20Trailer/DSCF8396.jpg :W
I'm in the process of resealing all my roof joints...but now see i have to pull the vent out first...

roof vent framing

I notice that one corner of the interior trim piece of the roof vent is sagging. Trying to tighten is does no good...it just turns. I know there is previous leak here as the ceiling material is bubbly. So i remove the other 3 screws to take a look...turns out the original screw was just turner because it was NEVER even in wood...missed the framing entirely. however, the 4 screw also just turned.
This is what i found when the trim was removed:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v148/mrjam2jab/Travel%20Trailer/P1060954.jpg
Im guessing the two pieces are irreparable...but the other two still look decent.
I know the leg bone is connected to the ankle bone and ceiling wood is connected to these framing members...but how much tear out is going to be necessary to remove them? I hoping to not have to tear off the whole section of ceiling...

check out this post Clicky link
Definitely pull off the vent covers and check. I also had the chemical smell...I pulled off the cover for another reason and found an abandoned nest...went in at least 3 inches deep.

RE: Montana registration to save taxes??

I HAD to pay the sales tax in CA, and the dealer HAD to register the truck in CA. Even after I registered and titled the truck in Montana, the State of California sent me a nasty gram saying I had BETTER renew the registration on the truck, or pay to have it put in "non-operational" status, or be liable to all kinds of fines and fees. I
But...how do they register it in CA if you dont LIVE in CA? What address do they use??? Lets say you live in AZ and your out and about over the border and stumble upon an "offer you cant refuse"...:h
California has auditors that they send all over the country looking for individuals who bought goods in the state but did not pay the sales tax. They use to do the same thing with income tax until the Supreme Court outlawed it. If you earned income in California and then retired and moved out of state, California still wanted you to pay income tax on your pension income.
I understand the "tax" thing...its the "registration" part that doesnt make any sense...nor even sound legal.

RE: Montana registration to save taxes??

When I got my first trailer the previous owner they never paid the fee for plates for a year, which I found out after I paid for the trailer, and got it home, they refused to pay the penalties from DMV, so I ended up paying them,
I dont get that...how is new owner responsible for previous owners penalties???? Thats like saying you are responsible for the unpaid parking tickets after you buy a used car...

RE: I just wanna MAP! grrrrr

Spend the $24.95 for the 2008 Trailer Life Directory and that will solve your problems. Trailer Life also has a CD set of the Directory that you can load into your computer. I carry the Directory in the camper and also have it installed on my computer.
Happy Camping :B
Does the Trailer Life Directory online work as well?
Or is that the clicking the OP wants to get away from?

Corner trim?

Another thread provided this repair item.
But this is the INSERT...is there a specific name for the "trim" that this is inserted into? Corner trim perhaps? would this be available at RV dealers?
